The Boys Room Is Finished :)

Posted by Chad under: Chad's .

Hey everyone,

I hope all is well, and that this Holiday Season is going well for you and your families.  Everything is going well here in Parras and with the children here at Vida Nueva.  Alise and I are doing well, apart from a nagging cold that has bothered Alise for the last few weeks.  The kids school year ends on December 19th, and that is quickly approaching.  On that day, Alise and I will be leaving for our Christmas Vacation as well.  We will drop Jacob Hathaway off at the Monterrey Airport and continue on to Laredo and eventually Beaumont, where Alise’s family is to celebrate Roger’s birthday and Christmas!

That is the quick run down but now I want to share with you about the last few weeks.  As you all know we celebrated Christmas with the kids here on Thanksgiving Day.  That night 3 guys from Dallas arrived to help us construct a new roof on the boys room.  Jacob, Benjamin, and I had removed the old roof the Tuesday before they arrived.  So on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, we worked very hard and completed the new roof.  We were ecstatic to get the roof completed in one day.

After the roof was finished there remained a great deal of work to be done before the boys could move back in.  First we needed to close in the gaps under the roof, then overlay that construction with a concrete mixture the Mexicans call Mezcla.  Then we needed to clean and work on the floor.  The floor was a very rough bare concrete.  Since the guys had donated more than we needed for the roof we were able to purchase new Tile to put down on the floor.  Finally the room needed to be repainted and have the windows fixed.

Yesterday we completed all of that.  Last weekend Jacob and I layed the Tile.  It was not that bad, but you understand really quick why having good tools would make the job better.  After two days of sore backs and raw knees we were finished.  Monday and Tuesday of this week we painted.  Today we will move the boys back into there old/new room.  The room has a new roof, new floor, higher ceiling and taller walls, and new paint.  It looks pretty good.  Here are some pictures.

I want to take a moment to bring attention to the guys from Dallas whose generous contribution and crazy two day work trip here made this possible.  Ryan, Ryan, and John, thank you for being obedient to listening to the Spirit’s voice in your lives.  Thank you for considering us and the needs of the home above your own.  The other person I want to mention and thank is Jacob Hathaway.  He has worked very hard here since he arrived.  We have had heavy, dirty, monotonous labor since he arrived.  He has been incredibly easy going, and always looking for ways to help.  Thank you Jacob for giving serving here for a month.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures.  We are very excited to have been able to make this a better room for our boys.  God Bless!  Feel free to comment.   - Chad & Alise

The room loks AWESOME, great job you guys! I think Benjamin is either very crazy or very fearless - maybe both. I don’t like ladders that are square on the ground… shivers! :)

I like the blue stripe around the room, very cheerful. Nice job on the tiles, too! I bet the boys are psyched to get back in there!

Love and miss you guys so!
